SX200 review
Appearance
The SX200 is small enough to fit into ones palm but is a little heavier than some of its competitors. It’s worth bearing in mind that Canon have squeezed a powerful 12x zoom lens into the shell and reaches nearly 6 cms at maximum telephoto. This in our opinion is certainly one of the SX200’s selling points making it one of the most versatile compacts around in terms of focal range. The shell is a high quality metal body finished in either black, burgundy or blue. There is an indented thumb-rest helping you to grip the camera. The one negative can be the flash which pops up all the time which can be inconvenient.
Shooting mode
The SX200 offers a range of scene modes and ‘Smart Auto Mode’ which automatically determines the subject's brightness, contrast etc and selects the best scene setting which is great for the amateur photographer. The ‘Face Detection’ works very well detects up to 35 faces in a shot! In addition the ‘FaceSelf-Timer’ makes taking group photos much easier. For those with a little more experience you can adjust the aperture and shutter priority turning it to full Manual shooting.

Controls
The majority of SX200 controls are clearly labelled and can be commonly found on other compact digital cameras including a dial on the top of the camera that lets you select the various shooting and scene modes. The shooting mode dial has a nice positive action with an audible click. At the back of the camera there is a 3” screen used to frame. Other functions include focus and flash options but there is no dedicated button for ISO speed. The Function button in the middle of the navigation opens a menu, which allows you to set metering, flash power, image size etc. The menu system is also very intuitive and accessed by a dedicated button underneath the navigation pad. Another selling point of the SX200 is the HD video capability which can record 720p video at 1280x720 pixels. The only downside is that it can take up a lot of space. The Canon SX200 also has an anti-shake system which automatically compensates for camera shake.
Playback
The Canon Powershot SX200 has a good range of options when it comes to playing back, managing and checking your photos/videos ... viewing up to 100 thumbnails and up to 10x magnification. In addition the Red-eye Correction options fixes red eye after you have taken a photo.
